A Relaxing Start To Your Day

If you want to reduce stress, try cutting the rush, frustration, and anger out of your morning.

Every morning, on my way to work, I see angry people in their cars. They are angry at the red lights, at slow drivers, and at other impatient and aggressive drivers. I can't imagine a less relaxing way of starting my day.

I try to think how the morning must have begun for these people. I'm sure they woke up at an hour that barely gave them enough time to make it to work. After that, any minor setback was a source of frustration.

Usually I bike to work, and I always allow myself plenty of time to get there. This way I can take in my surroundings, enjoy the feeling of cool morning air hitting my lungs, and take a few moments for some introspection. When I drive, I generally give myself enough time to take a roundabout route that winds along the river. There’s very little traffic, and the scenery is wonderful. I need to wake up twenty minutes earlier than usual to accommodate this leisurely start to my day.

A panicky, frustrating, or angry morning can set the tone for your entire day. It can also raise your level of stress and anxiety. Try waking up a bit earlier in the morning, and figuring out a way to actually enjoy your trip to work. If your not worried about being late, the trip to work can be calming and enjoyable. Posted by Picasa
